LISTEN: A Sacred Systems Practice

A mindful way of paying attention to yourself, your work and the world.

" "

LISTEN is a practice that brings together three ways of knowing.

  • Clarity: from systems thinking
  • Depth: from sacred interpretation
  • Presence: from mindfulness.

It’s a way of slowing down enough to notice what’s really happening; inside you, around you and between you and others.

Rather than rushing to conclusions or solutions, LISTEN invites you to move through six stages of awareness. Each one opens a different door into understanding.

The Six Movements of LISTEN

Listen Deeply

Every meaningful insight begins with presence. Before you analyse, interpret or act. LISTEN asks you to simply notice. Notice the system, the moment, the text, the emotion, what’s around you.

Systems thinking calls this mapping the landscape. And sacred traditions call it the first encounter. Together they are both saying: “Start by paying attention to what is actually here”.

Integrate Layers

Once you’ve listened, you begin to see that every situation has more than one layer. There are the facts, the data, the signals. As well as the resonances, the things you feel, sense or inituit.

LISTEN encourages you to hold these layers together without forcing them into a single meaning too quickly.

Shape Meaning

Meaning-making is where clarity begins to form.

You start to understand the story the system is telling. What are the patterns, where are the trade-offs, observe and imagine the possibilities. This is where systems thinking meets sacred imagination.

You’re not just interpreting what’s happening; you’re finding the narrative that helps it make sense. This is the moment insight becomes something you can articulate.

Tie to Relationship

No insight exists in isolation. Understanding deepens when it’s shared, tested or explored with others.

In systems, this looks like alignment and collaboration. In sacred traditions, it looks like dialogue and community.

LISTEN reminds you that clarity is relational, it grows when held with another person, another perspective or another part of yourself.

Embody Growth

Growth isn’t an idea. It’s something you live. It shows up in your posture, your choices, your presence, your boundaries.

Systems thinking calls this sustainable change. Sacred practice calls it transformation.

LISTEN invites you to let your learning settle into your body and your behaviour. This is about natural evolution, not performance.

Notice and Return

Life is cyclical. Systems shift. Meanings change. You evolve.

LISTEN ends where mindfulness begins: with the invitation to return. Return to the system, the text, the movement, the question and see what’s different now.

Each return reveals something new. This is how understanding deepens over time.

How to Use This Framework

You can move through these six movements in order, or return to whichever one meets you where you are. LISTEN (like life) is cyclical, not linear.

A Practice You Can Carry Into Anything

LISTEN isn’t limited to one topic. It can support you in:

  • Navigating work leadership
  • Understanding relationships
  • Making decisions
  • Processing change
  • Exploring identity
  • Finding clarity in complexity
  • Deepening self-awareness

LISTEN is a framework and a way of moving through the world. It helps you understand yourself, your relationships and your work with clarity, depth and compassion.

LISTEN is a practice to return to. There is no pressure to become a master.
